Verse I:  Kumaka ka ʻikena iā Hiʻilawe, i ka papa lohi mai aʻo Maukele 
               All eyes are on Hiʻilawe, in the bright flats of Maukele

Verse II:  Pakele mai au i ka nui manu, hau walaʻau nei puni Waipiʻo
               I escape all the birds, chattering in Waipiʻo

Verse III:  ʻAʻole nō wau e loaʻa mai, a he uhiwai au no ke kuahiwi
                 I shall not be caught, for I am the mist of the mountains

Verse IV:  He Hiwahiwa au nā ka makua, a he lei ʻāʻī nā ke kupuna 
                 I am the darling of the parents, and a garland for the grandparents

Verse V:  No Puna ke 'ala i hali 'ia mai, noho i ka wailele a'o Hi'ilawe 
                From Puna the fragrance is wafted to dwell at Hi'ilawe waterfall                

Verse VI, VII, VIII:   Omitted 

Verse IV: Eʻole koʻu nui piha akamai hala aʻe nā ʻale o ka moana
                 It is my great skill, the waves of the ocean overwhelm us
